Vegconnect
App
Overview
Problem
We want to create a platform to help users to transition from a non-vegan diet to a plant-based/vegan diet. Even though there are a handful of platforms out in the market each has very limited functionality and the main problem we found out that the users need to have different apps and forums to learn about plant-based recipes, products, and services. Most of them are not up to date with the current lifestyle and trend.
Solution
So we wanted to create an all in one platform where users, mentors, and plant-based businesses can register and help each other. We encourage users to post pictures of the daily plant-based food they have eaten and reward them with points which later can be redeemed to buy a product or a service. Thus encouraging them to eat animal cruelty food every day and help businesses to sell vegan products.

Competitor research
From the competitor research what I have learned is that each app has very limited functionalities and the app design and resources are very outdated. Even from a design perspective, it does not pull in the interest of today’s generations. HappyCow and Vegan Amino were the best apps available currently now. None of them has a website to use like Facebook thus making us unique in the community. Vegconnect is an all in one platform that encourages people to eat animal cruelty-free and also helping local business.
User research
As per research from Vegan Bites we found that the main reason people choose to become vegan is for health and animal protection and the majority of them are females with age 25-34. We wanted to make our app modern for the teenage people to use and encourage the people by rewarding them points and posting a lot of articles that teaches them the health benefits of going vegan.

Logo Design
Typically the logo has to represent the app. So, in this case, I want the Vegconnect logo to represent the core functionalities of the app which is the location-based products & services and the plant-based recipes. That’s why I made a logo that looks like a carrot with the negative space location icon and because it’s simple and minimalistic it will fit perfectly for an app.

Testing
I conducted usability testing and used the System Usability Scale (SUS) which provides a score for measuring usability. It consists of a 10 item questionnaire with five response options for respondents; from Strongly agree to Strongly disagree. First, I made the participants use the competitor’s apps and got an initial score of 59 which is considered as below average and then I let participants use the vegconnect app and got a score of 78.8 which is considered good. I got few feedbacks from the testing and which will be amended accordingly.
